This is something I’ve been looking forward to for a while.
As a contractor, most of the work I do is kitchens, bathrooms, additions—typical residential construction. But getting the opportunity to work with VA homeowners is different.
And honestly, it means more.
There’s a different level of purpose behind the work
At the end of the day, construction is construction.
But when you’re working on a home for someone who served, it carries a little more weight. You’re not just updating a space—you’re helping improve how someone lives day to day.
Sometimes that means accessibility.
Sometimes it’s safety.
Sometimes it’s just making a home more functional.
But either way, it matters.
These projects aren’t about cutting corners
If anything, it’s the opposite.
Working with VA-backed projects comes with stricter guidelines, more oversight, and a higher level of accountability. And that’s a good thing.
- Clear scopes
- Defined standards
- Proper documentation
- Inspections that actually mean something
That’s how construction should be done anyway.
It forces you to be better as a contractor
There’s no winging it.
You need:
- Clean documentation
- Clear communication
- Real scheduling
- Proper execution
Everything has to be thought through.
And as a contractor, that’s the kind of work you want to be part of.
It aligns with how I already run projects
A lot of what’s required on VA work is how I approach jobs already.
- Detailed contracts
- Licensed trades
- Permits pulled
- Work done to code
So it’s not a shift—it’s just applying that same standard to a different type of project.
It’s not just another job
That’s really what it comes down to.
This isn’t about chasing a new type of work or trying something different just for the sake of it.
It’s about being part of projects that have a little more meaning behind them—and doing the work the right way.
Final thought
I’m not looking at this as anything special in terms of how the work gets done.
The standard stays the same.
But who the work is for—that’s what makes it different.
And that’s something I’m excited to be a part of.
